These books are quite tiny, as in pocket-size. The original hardcover is a standard size book, but not this edition, although the only difference in the heading is paperback versus hardcover. While poetry can be lovely in pocket size books, detailed cartoons suffer in the miniature edition. In the original, the cartoons are wonderful. Fabulous gift of laughter for someone who is hospital-bound, which was my intention, but this edition is too small to be fully enjoyed, especially by anyone with vision affected by age/illness. Oddly, even though it was only two weeks after receiving the books when I tried to return them (because they are just too small for the older patients for whom these are intended) according to the Amazon site these are only eligible to be replaced with others of the same item, these are not eligible to be returned for a refund. Peculiar because Amazon has been good about returns in the past. Go figure. So be careful to check the size listed in the fine print on each edition that you consider before you order!

First off, the book is tiny. I mean really tiny. It's about 3 inches square. You can't discern the mini size from the Amazon picture, so be prepared. And, correspondingly, the cartoons are very small and may be hard to read if your eyes are over 45 years of age.The editors have culled together what are ostensibly the most humorous of the doctor-related cartoons from the New Yorker. Because humor is in the eye of the beholder, I can't say if they succeeded. All I can say is that there were a few gems for me, principally those by Gahan Wilson and Charles Addams. The average entry made me smile a little on the inside, but not much more than that.The New Yorker Book of Doctor Cartoons can be useful if you are in the position of needing doctor related visual humor on a regular basis. I could see this book of value to people who give presentations about health care, doctors, or medicine. I could also see this book as a nice (but did I mention TINY) gift to give to the doctors in your life. Doctors who can laugh at themselves will appreciate the humor. I know. I laugh at myself all the time (and yes, I'm a doctor).While not about doctors per se, an alternative to consider is: The Party After You Left

I got the paperback and I'm returning it. This is a tiny, four-inch-square, very unimpressive little book printed with pale ink. I got it for someone's birthday and would have been embarrassed to give it to him. The few cartoons I looked at did not strike me as funny, either. I wish I had read other reviews before buying it. It is way over-priced, but not of interest at any price.

My brother is a doc, who loved receiving this book!It is on a main coffee table in the living room for everyone to see!Later, it will go to the desk at his main office!

Not much more to say then I really like this book too. I also purchased Great American Western Railroad Routes. I have always been a fan of Railroads. An ERA gone by. Rode a train from California to Florida in 1961. Four days of sittin'and sleepin' upright to save a few bucks for a thirty day leave.I have never been disatisfied with any books I have purchased thru Amazon. My wife buys her reading material thru Amazon too.

I gladly bid and won the book The Great Eastern American Railroad Routes after having the Western version in my library. The formats are very similar. However, the clarity of the images in the eastern version are not as sharp as those in the Western. Still, a good buy.

Good history

I got this as a Christmas gift, and thought "Another Railroad book". This one is quite different from all the others I own since it gives a history of the very first railroads that were basically local. Living in Philadelphia, and often going by train to Boston, made this book especially interesting for me. I always thought of these little known roads as trying to get in on the action, when, in fact, they were the pioneers before the "big boys" even existed. My only nit-pick is that I wish the colorful old route maps were easier to read. It is hard to see what individual towns each route went through.

Mix well; stir in milk and 2 eggs. Set aside. Stir together cottage cheese, sour cream, salt, remaining butter and egg in a separate bowl; set aside. Spoon half the flour mixture into a lightly greased 9"x9" baking pan; top with cottage cheese mixture, then with remaining flour mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes, or until puffy and golden. Let cool slightly; cut into squares. Serves 6.

There are NO books by this publisher that I do not LOVE. This is (as expected) exactly what I had hoped it would be. Besides having many good recipes (no "weird" ones), the series of books include some amazing "tips and good advice" at the bottom of each page/recipe...from variations to cooking hints and tips and other very useful information! I cannot recommend Gooseberry Patch cookbooks enough to anyone and everyone; these are the very best!

Just received the book and when I went to flip through it, I noticed several pages were faded or missing the recipes all together... at least it was only in the first 30 pages but who knows if I would've enjoyed those recipes.

One of the best recipe books I have in my collection. I like the fact that is is dedicated to casseroles.

Gooseberry Patch cookbooks are one of my favorites.

I purchased this for my sister and she is thrilled with it.
