This book has a fantastic selection of tunes. Its almost like THE REAL BOOKS 1 & 2 COMBINED plus THE NEW REAL BOOK only with those annoying commercial fake book chord changes. That is my major criticism... Basically what they do is give you chord changes that I guess are meant to help out players who aren't at the level where they can really reharmonize things on the spot, and need something quasi hip to play. The problem with that though is that people shouldn't really buy a fake book like this to LEARN how to play Jazz. You get a book like THE JAZZ THEORY BOOK (by Mark Levine) etc. etc. then apply that knowlege to the fake books. I think using a book like this as "instructional sheet music" (as a reviewer will occasionally imply to have done) actually hurt the aspiring Jazz student because they deprive him or her of the skill gained through instruction or experience of identifying basic Jazz forms (key to building repoitoire and improvisational ability). You just learn how to play specific songs and arrangements note for note - - and never learn how to think of the changes functionally in order to be able to improvise or accompany at a jam session or playing in an ensemble. Its really important for you to be able to look at a tune, tell what type of beast it is, then tackle it from that perspective... Hence, this is my main (and strong) criticism about the book : A good and functional fake book gives the musician the melody, the root of the chord, and its fundamental quality (major, minor, dom, etc.) - - after that, they *should* decide for themselves what type of extensions to or not to use - - - It is the musicians job to decide whether that C7 chord should really be played diminished, dominant, flat nine, raised nine, thirteenth - - But a book such as this will often jump the gun, for example not only won't it say C7 or C7b9, it'll say E diminished or something like that... Technically speaking it might be correct, but it distracts the improviser from the main point. (*and let me also say that in many ways this book is better than some of the others and even some of the non-commercially available professional fake books have these "errors" so these complaints aren't leveled exclusively against this book !)This problem aside, if you DO know your basic Jazz forms, or are in the process of mastering them, I HIGHLY reccomend this book (and even if you're not, it IS an incredible book to futz around with). ...It offers an enormous wealth of tunes and definitely beats carrying along a brief case of fake books. Just carry a pencil with you. Just to give you a feel.. here are a few of the tunes in it...Airegin All Blues Along Came Betty Angel Eyes Bag's Groove Be-Bop Bernie's Tune Billie's Bounce Bluesette Body And Soul Boplicity (Be Bop Lives) Caldonia (What Makes Your Big Head So Hard?) (In regard to the print, there are ways to deal with that problem. I'm glad I can fit it in my case !)

I have eight fake books I think, and this is the last one I reach for. The changes are not always right, that's my biggest complaint, but the presentation isn't that good, either. Warner Brothers publishes a 'Just Standards' Real Book that is my first choice. I like the changes and I like the presentation. If I can't find the song there, I check the Sher Music Real Books. The Sher Real Books are the standard, almost everybody will tell you that. Nice presentation, good song selection, the right changes. I also have a couple of books in the Jazz Bible series, and they're good but the binding doesn't lay flat easily on a music stand.I recommend that you check out the Warner Bros. or the Sher books first, you'll find that you don't need this book.

I have other fake books but this one has more chords ( some tricky to play but better sound). Worth getting

I wore out my other copy. Bought this as a backup. Great collection. Like it a lot more than the "real book" collections. This has all of the standards I care about. I can pull a whole gig with this book alone. And I'm pretty sure other musicians will have it in their gig bag.If you gig and play standards; this is the book.

Wow! This is great. This piano book was another library book that I checked out and thought was great. Yep! Amazon could still get it for you. Now I can play 650 more songs. This book requires left hand improvisation. A fake book has right hand notation with chord signature changes. A great addition for anyone who can play piano in this fashion without being enslaved to all notes printed on a piece of sheet music.

So many good tunes with good changes (easy to pencil in additional changes you want). Readable.

This one just doesn’t flow well for a kids board book.

I thought this was very cute and wanted my grandchild to have it. I love saimin and thought this was very accurate.

My daughter was recently diagnosed as autistic-- and like all parents, we experienced a range of emotions (relief in trying to figure out what's happening and fear for what it may mean for her future). I was determined not to look at or discuss the diagnosis as a negative-- especially after attending an Autism 101 course where they compared the Autistic brain to Mac and the neurotypical brain to a PC (light bulb- as Gru would say). My daughter is a twin and I wanted to introduce her and her brother to the concept of autism in a way that did not pathologize it. Most books I have come across describe children with symptoms she does not exhibit (such as being non-verbal). I literally cried when I read this book. It was exactly what I was looking for. I see it says, Volume 1 and I will be looking for Volume 2! I was very pleased.(My twins just turned 3).

Autism is...hard to explain! My six-year-old little guy is living with autism, and I've only recently broached the subject with him (other than to say that "his brain works differently"). I'm really struggling with putting the concept of autism into words and ideas that he can digest.This book is terrific, mostly because my son is so much like the kid the in the story. This is the first autism children's book that I've picked up that is really geared towards autistic children rather than their neurotypical siblings/peers.

Absolutely love this book for my 3yr old with autism. The resson being this book is not to other kids/ppl about autism it's about the child with autism themselves. It gives off a really fun positive imagine into Austim. I bought a few books and return them because they all would make something about autism seem negative or wrong which it's not. This is great book to read your child to help build confidence in them about living with autism.

This book is absolutely perfect! I bought both this and Ethan's story, another picture book explaining autism. Parents can be scared to have "the talk" with their kids about autism. (Although, really, that's half the problem - if you view it as a bad thing to talk about, your kids will see it as a bad thing, too.) A picture book like this is a way to start kids out early understanding autism in a non-threatening way their parents can easily follow.Out of the two, this book is way better for that. It was quite broad in descriptions of symptoms, it chose symptoms most every child has. That was my problem with Ethan's story - it was only about Ethan. Not everyone has a sensory vest, not every autistic person is good at math, etc, etc....but from Ethan's story you would think so. This one is general, and that's great. :)Yes, it is for younger children. But that is exactly when you should be starting it - even if they're too young to understand you should be starting to explain this to them because that's the point, you start BEFORE they even have questions about it, not afterwards (when you risk them learning it from other people - kids in class, siblings, etc).Overall, I highly recommend this!

The book is alright, though the rhyming is unnecessary and doesn't always work; if you are looking to explain autism to a neurotypical child though, there are surely better books out there. Very vague, like another reviewer stated.

This is the best children's book I've found so far to explain my son to my daughter. He doesn't have a lot of the stereotypical autism traits like lining things up or flapping his hands. He isn't old enough to be bullied and she's not embarrassed by his meltdowns. Most of the other books I've bought deal with those areas. This is a more general book. Some may find it too vague if they need to explain the issues I mentioned earlier. In our home we are explaining a 3yr old's autism to a 5yr old. She doesn't notice most things, she thinks autism means he's not good at sharing. So this was a perfect way for us to start explaining autism to her.

My son loves this book, and reads it often. It's been really helpful in helping him understand who he is, in a way that is positive and comfortable. We have also loaned it to friends for them to read so that they can better understand him as well. It's it's written with an understandable perspective.

This book was not a good as I'd hoped. The Sesame Street Julia book is much better for reading to small children who have or know someone with autism.

The temps have dropped and as I walked down main street Deep River, CT this afternoon wishing I had that favorite wool coat, I flashed back on memories of times I wore it at the Essex steam train, for Christmas Eve services, and the tree lighting in Ivoryton. It occurred to me that the voices of memories are so very loud in the fall. I found myself staring at the stack of A Connecticut Christmas and I sat down to enjoy the colorful pages and artistry you present. Caryn's book provided a therapeutic reminder of all that is offered in our state during the holidays that I can add to the list of possibilities when filling the days before, during and after Christmas morning...use this book as a guide of places to enjoy and experiences to have as new memories are made, build up old traditions and explore our beautiful state. Caryn's photos captured the warmth of the era, the beauty and innocence of the season, and the traditions New Englanders make our own.

I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my mother. She has always loved Christmas and though she doesn't get around the state much anymore she could sit in the comfort and warmth of her home and enjoy the sights, lights and attractions. The book is full of wonderful pictures that depict a New England Christmas. The only disappointment was that more counties were not represented. Yes I am biased because we live in Litchfield Country and there are many beautiful sights here year round and some that are only found during the holidays. If you are familiar with the shoreline areas this book is rich with pictures and history.,

This is one of my most favorite coffee table books ! It has wonderful pictures and descriptions of places throughout Connecticut. This belongs in every house in CT during the Christmas season. It also makes a wonderful gift.

This is a visual feast for the coffee table. Give yourself a while if you are sitting there thinking to pick it up, because you will look at the clock an hour plus later. Beautiful photos by a very fine photographer, and the accompanying text complements perfectly. I highly recommend this as a Christmas gift for those who live in, or just love, the Nutmeg state.

This book is a testament to all the joyous treasures that Connecticut has to offer. The photographer, Caryn Davis, has the unique ability to tell a story through her lens, and the narrative adds to the mystique of each photo. A great gift for those living in the State, and those interested in exploring Connecticut's charms.

It seems to be hard to find nice table books that are beautiful, historical and interesting. This is all three of those and arrived right on schedule and packed perfectly. This is a great fireside reader :)
