These books are quite tiny, as in pocket-size. The original hardcover is a standard size book, but not this edition, although the only difference in the heading is paperback versus hardcover. While poetry can be lovely in pocket size books, detailed cartoons suffer in the miniature edition. In the original, the cartoons are wonderful. Fabulous gift of laughter for someone who is hospital-bound, which was my intention, but this edition is too small to be fully enjoyed, especially by anyone with vision affected by age/illness. Oddly, even though it was only two weeks after receiving the books when I tried to return them (because they are just too small for the older patients for whom these are intended) according to the Amazon site these are only eligible to be replaced with others of the same item, these are not eligible to be returned for a refund. Peculiar because Amazon has been good about returns in the past. Go figure. So be careful to check the size listed in the fine print on each edition that you consider before you order!

First off, the book is tiny. I mean really tiny. It's about 3 inches square. You can't discern the mini size from the Amazon picture, so be prepared. And, correspondingly, the cartoons are very small and may be hard to read if your eyes are over 45 years of age.The editors have culled together what are ostensibly the most humorous of the doctor-related cartoons from the New Yorker. Because humor is in the eye of the beholder, I can't say if they succeeded. All I can say is that there were a few gems for me, principally those by Gahan Wilson and Charles Addams. The average entry made me smile a little on the inside, but not much more than that.The New Yorker Book of Doctor Cartoons can be useful if you are in the position of needing doctor related visual humor on a regular basis. I could see this book of value to people who give presentations about health care, doctors, or medicine. I could also see this book as a nice (but did I mention TINY) gift to give to the doctors in your life. Doctors who can laugh at themselves will appreciate the humor. I know. I laugh at myself all the time (and yes, I'm a doctor).While not about doctors per se, an alternative to consider is: The Party After You Left

I got the paperback and I'm returning it. This is a tiny, four-inch-square, very unimpressive little book printed with pale ink. I got it for someone's birthday and would have been embarrassed to give it to him. The few cartoons I looked at did not strike me as funny, either. I wish I had read other reviews before buying it. It is way over-priced, but not of interest at any price.

My brother is a doc, who loved receiving this book!It is on a main coffee table in the living room for everyone to see!Later, it will go to the desk at his main office!

Not much more to say then I really like this book too. I also purchased Great American Western Railroad Routes. I have always been a fan of Railroads. An ERA gone by. Rode a train from California to Florida in 1961. Four days of sittin'and sleepin' upright to save a few bucks for a thirty day leave.I have never been disatisfied with any books I have purchased thru Amazon. My wife buys her reading material thru Amazon too.

I gladly bid and won the book The Great Eastern American Railroad Routes after having the Western version in my library. The formats are very similar. However, the clarity of the images in the eastern version are not as sharp as those in the Western. Still, a good buy.

Good history

I got this as a Christmas gift, and thought "Another Railroad book". This one is quite different from all the others I own since it gives a history of the very first railroads that were basically local. Living in Philadelphia, and often going by train to Boston, made this book especially interesting for me. I always thought of these little known roads as trying to get in on the action, when, in fact, they were the pioneers before the "big boys" even existed. My only nit-pick is that I wish the colorful old route maps were easier to read. It is hard to see what individual towns each route went through.

Cheese Blintz Casserole1-1/4 c. all-purpose flour1 t. baking powder3 T. sugar1/2 c. plus 2 T. butter, softened and divided3/4 c. milk3 eggs, divided16-oz. container cottage cheese1 T. sour cream1/2 t. saltCombine flour, baking powder, sugar and 1/2 cup butter in a medium bowl. Mix well; stir in milk and 2 eggs. Set aside. Stir together cottage cheese, sour cream, salt, remaining butter and egg in a separate bowl; set aside. Spoon half the flour mixture into a lightly greased 9"x9" baking pan; top with cottage cheese mixture, then with remaining flour mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes, or until puffy and golden. Let cool slightly; cut into squares. Serves 6.

There are NO books by this publisher that I do not LOVE. This is (as expected) exactly what I had hoped it would be. Besides having many good recipes (no "weird" ones), the series of books include some amazing "tips and good advice" at the bottom of each page/recipe...from variations to cooking hints and tips and other very useful information! I cannot recommend Gooseberry Patch cookbooks enough to anyone and everyone; these are the very best!

Just received the book and when I went to flip through it, I noticed several pages were faded or missing the recipes all together... at least it was only in the first 30 pages but who knows if I would've enjoyed those recipes.

One of the best recipe books I have in my collection. I like the fact that is is dedicated to casseroles.

Gooseberry Patch cookbooks are one of my favorites.

I purchased this for my sister and she is thrilled with it.

What a great bundle of dubcon stories. I love them all. This is one of my favorite erotica writer.

I give up! Erotica should be just that--erotic and actually written well. I've read good erotica. Sexy smut that pulls you into a world of naughty thoughts and fantasies. I wish this author would consent to a writing class.

The author is a mostly literate man not even pretending hard to be a woman. Not at all erotic. Not faintly plausible. Ugly, undeveloped characters. Absolutely no imagination. Only thing going for it is a few fake reviews.

This book is a collection of Cerise's shorts. I really like this because we get to have so many of her stories in one place. It makes it easier to keep turning the pages to get so realllllllllly good mental images. If you like quick erotic books - you will like her stories.If you like taboo books - you will enjoy her stories.If you like well thought out characters - you will really like her stories.If you like all the above - you need to sign up for her email list so that you don't miss a single one!Cerise is HOT and is pounding away at her computer daily to bring us some enjoyable stories.

For me, these stories provide the perfect ballance between read and rut. Sufficient but minimal plot and character development, erotic from the start moving quickly to nasty sex. Just the right amount of warped psychlogy during the action to make it hottest. All in all, just what I want erotic reading to be.

First off, fire your editor because I had to quit after about 10 pages. Second, he only thing taboo was the grammar and spelling...like a fifth grader wrote it.

The stories are all pretty engaging. Read them all without putting it down. I couldn't wait to see what happened next.

This book is, itself, an excellent re-ordering of St. Louis Dr Monfort's treatise in that instead of flipping back and forth through the book for the various items you need for each day's devotion, everything you need for a particular day is found, in order, under that day's heading. This transforms a complicated process into a very convenient and easy to follow devotion. I highly recommend this book on that basis alone.There is a large caveat, however, to wit: whomever prepared the Kindle edition must surely have failed to submit it to a proofreader, as there typos, omissions, and misspellings on every page. This naturally disrupts the flow of reading, which is bad enough for one in prayer, but it also introduces actual error into what the Saint is writing. A revised, carefully corrected edition must be prepared and issued quickly!

St. Pope John Paul II credited this book and St Louis de Monfort as a turning point in his life. Nine past popes highly recommended this book and devotion. All I can say is that this book and devotion has also changed my life for the better. Thank you St Louis de Monfort, please pray for us.

This book was a pure joy to listen to. I enjoyed every minute of it. Paper Forest was the perfect character to lead me through this near future scifi tale. She’s blessed with caring family & friends even as she grows up in one of the poorest areas, working in a giant landfill. She and her sisters (Rock and Scissors, and yes, they are triplets) each have different talents and Paper’s is her fascination with rockets and Mars. This causes several model rocket mishaps, much to Duggie’s amusement (Paper’s best friend). Everyone in the Fill watches the game show You’re Going To Mars, the entertainment child of trillionaire Zach Larson.Then a magical thing happens. People have conspired to get Paper on that show because they believe in her, love her, and want a champion of the Fill. The Gitanos, a ruthless family that owns and runs the Fills around the world, have near-slavery multi-generational contracts with the inhabitants of the Fills. The horrible living and working conditions are unknown to outsiders.There is so much well placed humor in this story. Sometimes it’s used to lighten a moment, sometimes just to give some snark, and then sometimes to make a serious point. Paper is great with her snark. It’s just the right amount and I never got tired of hearing her thoughts on everything.The other contestants on the show were fun too. Aurora stands out because of all her sass but also because she’s both needy and distrusting all at the same time. She’s one of those celebrity stars known for her music and not her math or engineering skills. The real astronauts that have been training for years for this Mars trip aren’t too thrilled about taking along some bratty contestant winner, whoever that turns out to be. Astronaut Dan Daniels sure isn’t happy and he lets everyone know it.The suspense winds up and one contestant after another is dropped from the competition. I loved that it wasn’t a bad thing for everyone (in fact someone wins a pet store! Ha! What a consolation prize!). There’s also more humor as the would be astronauts learn about astronaut life, like all those close living arrangements…. when you are doing everything. I mean everything!Paper has some scary moments but I love how Jane does her best again and again to keep Paper in the game. The Gitanos are just one hurdle. There are others that don’t want a private organization successfully setting down on Mars. Perhaps there is something there we don’t expect after all.This story gave me one fist-bump moment after another. I was verbally cheering Paper on at times, much to the amusement of people around me. You go Paper! The ending has a few sad moments and some great want to the hug everyone moments. Honestly, this has been one my favorite books for the year. 5/5 stars.The Narration: Khristine Hvam did an amazing job. She is Paper Forest. I also applaud her ability to make all three sisters sound closely related but to also give each a distinct voice, mostly through attitude. Her male voices are spot on too. She had the perfect older male voice for Zach Larson. Her sass for Aurora was just as I pictured it. The recording quality was top notch. Excellent all around. 5/5 stars.

Rob Dircks' You're Going to Mars is a remarkable book voiced by a talented narrator. The protagonist, Paper (aka Pepper, aka Robin) is intelligent, empathetic, loyal, resolute, and completely intent on one day making it to Mars, regardless of how slim the odds may be. She is immediately likable and I found myself desperately hoping she'd somehow find a way to accomplish her mission, enjoy the adventure along the way, and secure an advantageous outcome for her whole family.You're Going to Mars is part Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, part Survivor, part the Martian, and part Obscura, but set in the world of Disney's Wall-E...kind of. If you're familiar with Wall-E, you may recall that robots scavenged and processed waste in the future, assigned to a certain geographical location to "clean up" abandoned cities while humans lived elsewhere, in a place largely influenced by corporations. The world Dircks creates in You're going to Mars is reminiscent of Wall-E's world, except there are people mining and processing waste instead of robots, and the others aren't living aboard a starliner, but rather in the "mainland" of the United States.Triplets Paper, Rock, and Scissors live with their father and grandmother in Fill City One where they are expected to continue this work for the duration of their lives. We learn that they are not considered citizen's of the United States but instead, belong to the corporation that owns and operates Fill City One (and other cities like it). Dircks masterfully utilizes sensory imagery to transport readers to Paper's world, enabling readers to see, hear, smell, taste, and feel everything that Paper does throughout the book. For instance, Paper describes her home as a place filled with both love, and a distinct smell... a place where the smell of methane and waste is such constant that the fillers have given it a name: "Everpresent Stink." The "Everpresent Stink" is so deeply a part of her world that Paper immediately notices its absence when she takes her first breath outside of Fill City One.When Paper receives the prized and much sought after Red Scarab, she embraces the adventure and eagerly awaits the opportunity to compete for a seat on the first manned mission to Mars, an opportunity that could fulfill her childhood dream of visiting the Red Planet while also drastically improving the quality of life for her family. The first step is escaping Fill City and the next is winning Zach Larson's reality TV show (think Survivor meets American Idol, where contestants compete against each other to win a series of challenges based on the skills they'll need to survive on Mars, earning points for both victories and viewer engagement).The trouble begins almost immediately, with a risky escape from Fill City One, a potentially dangerous cross-country road trip, and a rigorous and challenging series of tests including physical competitions, the emotional strain associated with living away from her tight-knit family (in confined quarters with near strangers), and several instances of apparent sabotage, leaving Paper and other contestants to wonder what exactly they're willing to risk to set foot on Mars and what the saboteurs could possibly be trying to hide.You're Going to Mars was one of the most interesting, entertaining stories I've listened to in quite a while. I found myself eager to get in the car for my morning and evening commutes, looking forward to picking up where I left off and hoping for a few extra minutes of listening time every day. Dircks creates a near-future world that's so believable you might forget you're not really living in it and characters so likable and relatable that you may forget they don't really exist.You'll likely find yourself cheering for Paper/Pepper/Robin, wondering if she should really trust that guy or that girl, wishing for the safety of her family, and wondering how on earth she's going to pull it all off. The book's narrator, Khristine Hvam helps to achieve this connection, lending Paper a voice that seems fitting for her personality and adding a certain depth to the characters that highlight Dircks superb character development.
