This gem of a book relates the stories of a familial love affair with wooden boats that culminates in the history of the Pardon Me, the largest wooden runabout ever built. The narrative is generously accompanied by pictures, many of which were culled from private family archives and diligently researched to authenticate the story line and dispel myths that clouded the history of some of the spectacular watercraft that cruised the waters of the St Lawrence River in the heyday of wooden boats. The stories also provide a window to glimpse into the days of summertime fun amongst the elite of a bygone generation whose interest in advancing the architecture and engineering of marine design established the early traditions of power boat racing. It will particularly appeal to wooden boat aficionados who will likely be somewhat familiar with these boats, but will appreciate the insights and histories that the authors provide. More generally, it can be enjoyed by anyone who marvels at the craftsmanship of the highly varnished mahogany boats that still turn smiling faces as they pass by.The prose is succinct. The pictures are plentiful. They work synergistically to relate the record of a love affair with wooden boats in the golden era of that genre on the fantastic waterways of the St Lawrence River. Get yourself and copy and enjoy!

Excellent book on history of Thousand Islands and the wooden boats they had. Written expertly and draws your memory back to the day.

The photographs are wonderful! A glimpse of the Saint Lawrence and the beautiful boats

Great book! Fabulous pictures and interesting text.

This book is fantastic! So well written. I have a summer place in the St. Lawrence River in Chippewa Bay, and I am amazed how much I did not know about the wonderful history of the area. The photographs from the Oak Island archives are worth the price of the book. The historical pictures are priceless. One of my favorite parts was about Frederick Remington the famous artist and sculptor who spend a great deal of time in Chippewa Bay. I did not know of his history with Oak Island. Many people one of his famous pieces that are in the oval office of the President. This book is a must read for anyone familiar with the area, or anyone who wants to learn some great history of the wonderful wooden boats of the area. Fantastic Dave Kunz, love it. Can't recommend it enough.
